Educational work of Jubilo with young performers

1. Video z warsztatów z wyselekcjonowaną grupą młodych uczestników. Warsztat składał się z dwóch głównych bloków. Pierwszy to treningu aktorskiego i nauki narzędzi ekspresji teatralnej, pracy z głosem i ciałem. Druga część to poszukiwanie i budowanie scen, tekstów na podstawie improwizacji.

Video from the workshops with a selected group of young participants. The workshop consisted of two main blocks. The first is acting training and learning the tools of theatrical expression, working with voice and body. The second part is searching for and building scenes and texts on the basis of improvisation.

A video documenting the last block of improvisation, which was the result of the continuation of the workshop and the development of the search with a group of selected workshop participants. In improvisation, the actors combined the previously developed elements of training, movement, songs, and texts, looking for new possibilities and meanings for these activities.

In summer, we started rehearsals for the performance with a selected group of three actors selected from the workshop group we had been working with from the beginning of the project. Starting from improvisation and the elements that we developed during the workshop sessions in Wrocław and Belgrade, we started building the structure of the performance “On the other side”. We incorporated into our work the experience of cooperation with the participants of the workshop session in Belgrade (conversations, interviews and video shot on site), which became an important part of our scenario.

Video projection of the last scene of the performance “On the other side”, which is a combination of the filmed eyes of the project participants with whom we worked in the summer at the Plavo Theater (workshops from Switzerland, from the refugee camp in Belgrade, from Poland and Italy) with an interview with one of the guys from the Hasibem camp, whom we asked for a few words that he would like to address to the people of the world.

How can we, as artists, become active witnesses of encounters behind prison walls and through performative tools, transform the themes, stories, and faces encountered on this journey and make them speak to the broader audience?

The work begins by questioning the theme of the “personal prison”. Prison is no longer perceived as given from the outside by someone else (i.e. public institutions), but as an often unconscious restriction that we impose on ourselves, unaware of social and cultural conditioning. This inner prison exposes and questions the subject of personal limitations and self-evaluation. Starting from the individual dimension towards a broader horizon, we worked on the development of materials and reflections on freedom in the context of the current condition of society. On one hand, we observe the world with clearly defined boundaries where conflicts grow, and separation seems to be the answer. On the other hand, however, we see a constant need to pursue relationships, to open up new possibilities, and to search for authentic dialogue between one person and another.
