The theatre group from Zurich was working within “Crisis and Communitas” – a project led by Professor Dorota Sajewska (Slavic Studies Department, University of Zurich), which describes itself as a “platform for the transcultural exchange of academic and artistic research on the practice of communitarian thought.” Its aim is “to connect and exchange ideas of how we could creatively transform what is nowadays often called a time of crisis, working towards the abolition of inequalities and respect for diversity.”

The participants of theatrical educational work were students of the University.

Young performers in Zurich have developed physical and vocal journeys based on the themes of T.S. Eliot’s poem “The Wasteland”. Published nearly a century ago, it reflects upon the fatigue and disorientation after a global cataclysm – a theme one can reconnect with today. It first premiered in Zurich as a site-specific outdoor performance in September 2021 as part of the “Crisis and Communitas” project at the University of Zurich.

Eliots Gedicht „The Wasteland“.

Oktober 2021 in Belgrad. Es wurde von Yuri Birte Anderson als Zusammenarbeit zwischen International Laboratory Ensemble & Crisis und Communitas / Slavisches Seminar/UZH (Projektleitung: Prof. Dorota Sajewska) geleitet und war Teil der internationalen Projektes „Initiative – Inclusion – Interaction – Contemporary Theatre for Active Youth“ mit Unterstützung des Erasmus+ Programms der Europäischen Union.
